Sr. Mainframe Consultant

Contract to Hire
The Sr. Mainframe Consultant provides advanced technical and consultative support on the most complex and critical technical matters within the organization. This role requires deep expertise in mainframe technologies, including COBOL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM, along with the ability to deliver strategic solutions that align with business goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Analyze, design, and develop mainframe systems and applications using COBOL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM based on detailed user specifications and business requirements.
Provide expert-level technical support and troubleshooting for hardware and software issues, ensuring system reliability and optimal performance.
Leverage extensive knowledge of technical tools, utilities, and best practices in systems development and support.
Maintain proficiency in mainframe development environments and stay up to date with evolving industry trends and technologies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality of mainframe systems within the enterprise architecture.
Assist in identifying training needs and mentoring junior staff to build team capability and technical depth.
Serve as a project leader on key initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business and technical objectives.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

8-10 years of hands-on experience in mainframe development and support using COBOL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.
Proficient in JCL, TSO/ISPF, Endevor (or other version control tools), and IBM mainframe environments ( z/OS).
Strong experience in system analysis, performance tuning, and batch/online processing.
Solid understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, and IT service management best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree
9+ years of related experience or an additional 4 years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree
Mainframe Experience a must
Experience working with EDI file processing using Connexion application
Experience with ACH files and ACH file processing
Preferred Qualifications:

Microsoft Office experience
Experience working in multi-platform environment
Ability to balance both development and support roles
Experience in working on projects that involve business segments
Strong analytical, strong troubleshooting skills and excellent communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, focus on customer service, and the ability to work well with other IT, vendor, and business groups
